Just As You Are
I have recently written a series of poems about losing a dear friend. I find that I am processing my grief as I write. I hope that these poems bless you. “Leaving the crowd, they took Him along with them in the boat, just as He was” (Mark 4:36).
Just as you are,
I’ll take you in my boat,
though the squall
meant to destroy
rocks every inch
of my hope.
Just because you are
in my boat, I can rest.
When I, you, discover
upon the pillow, asleep
doubt and regret
in my heart
threaten to leap.
Because I have taken you,
O’ Maker of the heavens
and every blinking star
I will trust that you know
what is happening on the sea
And will calm every wave
inside of me.
Thou tired by the strain
you arise again,
to speak peace’s refrain.
The sea does calm-
the one inside of me,
and I am thankful.
Oh dear pilot, that you
still, navigate the sea.
