Abundant Grace Meets Forgiveness

2 Corinthians 2:16: “To the one we are an aroma that brings death; to the other, an aroma that brings life. And who is equal to such a task?”

Precious ointment is
Your name upon my lips,
drawing perfume-laden worship
drip by drip
Love-words anoint the whole
turning this alabaster into gold.

Abundant grace meets
forgiveness here.
Reckless extravagance-
redemption so dear.
a tune of love
eternity born.

Eyes bore thru my cowering frame.
Fiery tongues caused me shame,
but hearing Your voice
declare out loud
that crowds around the world
will hear my story somehow…

A tale of a shackled princess,
beaten and frail,
You came to my defense.
Your love beyond all reason.
Accepted my touch.
Relished my kisses.

Other lovers-simply dismissive
Tangled and messy, my unbound tresses,
No longer fearing scorn and rebuke
I kissed the blessed feet of peace.
I found release.

I entered here, head bowed low,
bound with shame where I go,
but You spoke to me and I swooned
as sweet oil and precious perfume
slid between your toes, reached
the soles, headed to the Hill of Skulls

The curse was broken;
my sanity was restored.
The fragrance of beaten nard
escaped its prison,
with the jar’s every broken shard,
entrancing the nostrils of you, my Lord.

My lips parted and proclaimed,
“Let me lavish my life on You.”
Unashamed.
Indiscriminate; forgiven;
Cleansed; released
in Your Holy name.

So spend it all on Him
I most certainly will,
distilling a fragrance
that all can smell,
a sweet odor that
comes of suffering

Comes in the crushing
Comes in the burying
Comes in pouring out my life-
A vessel of honor
so His sweet aroma
may invade this place.
